Dig For Victory is a campaign from the second world war to encourage British households to grow fruit and vegetables in light of the food shortages the UK faced as the German U boats cut of our imports from abroad

When the second world war hit Britain was very dependent on food imports with around 75% of British food coming via sea. As the UK become increasingly isolated the UK government and war cabinet began their campaign to turn all available land into plantings.

The dig for victory campaign was immensely successful, by 1942 around half of the UK population was part of the garden front, with thousands of extra square miles converted to grow food for the UK areas converted included school playing fields, factory courtyards, public gardens as well as individual`s private gardens. Their were also some very unique places used for growing including the moat at the Tower of London.
