Laying Paving Bricks
Maybe you are wanting to lay your brick paving yourself, view our how to guide below and get expert hints and tips.
- Mark out paved area - Before you proceed with anything, mark off the proposed paved area and get measurements, this will enable you to get the price of material and get the appropriate amount of paving bricks.
- Create a Flat Surface - When laying brick paving you will need to ensure a flat surface, otherwise you will end up with uneven patio or driveway, this is best done by digging out the ground where you are going to lay the paving and create a concrete base, alternatively you are able to lay a red sand base but this is not such a solid base.
- Consider drainage - When you are laying the paving you must consider what will happen when it rains, obviously opposed to grass and soil paved patios don’t soak up rain water, so you must ensure there is a space for the rain water to run in to
- Laying the paving bricks - Check the alignment of the pavers all five rows with a spirit level placed on a flat rule. Readjust if necessary pounding the pavement with a little mallet
- Filling in the gaps - Fill the brick joints with sand 0.5 mm
- Clean the paved area - Ensure the new paved area is cleaned with excess sand, concrete or mortar cleaned away, if this sets on top of the paved area this can be incredibly difficult to remove.
